Every spring the waters swell behind every damn along the snake river. About 10 miles up-river from my house is the Minadoka Damn. There are numerous spillways that come alive when they’re opened up to regulate water levels. I was fishing for spawning trout at one of my favorite spillways when I took this photo of an American White Pelican who was there for the same reasons I was except I don’t think he plans to catch and release.
