Friendly chatter amongst the participants of Sweet Inspiration’s monthly cooking class in Gooding, Idaho adds a welcoming atmosphere within the food and wine specialty store’s brick-adorned storefront. Each month Sweet Inspiration offers themed culinary instruction aimed at inspiring inventive and zesty uses for everyday ingredients.
Garnishing February’s class was the versatile, yet often overlooked in the kitchen, tea leaf. Ballard Farms’ lively and eccentric Chef Jane Deal teamed with Chrys Stevenson, owner of Sweet Inspiration, to demonstrate several proven recipes while intermittently testing the borders by dauntingly experimenting on a few others.
An unexpected crowd favorite was discovered in the form of a peach mustard dipping sauce demonstrated over Ballard’s Idaho Golden Greek fried cheese. During solicited feedback after sampling the creation, participants energetically offered suggestions of delicacies they believed would be complimented by the unusual sauce including pork chops and salmon.
Throughout the class, Chef Deal kept participants entertained with intriguing antidotes gleaned both from the kitchen and life-in-general while simultaneously instructing on intricacies of the technique and fielding participant inquiries.
“I’ve always loved baking and this class is really fun,” notes 8-year-old participant Genny Fager of Gooding.
Regardless of age and culinary ability (or lack-thereof) Sweet Inspiration’s classes offer something for all. Whether you enjoy testing new creations or could use a bit of guidance regarding simple kitchen techniques Chrys and Jane provide a stimulating environment for all levels.
The next class titled Spring Bounty and will be on March 22nd.
