Private “suites” with climate-controlled rooms, including heated floors and air conditioning. Cable television. A styling salon with trained professionals. Hot oil massages and pedicures.
Sounds like an ideal weekend getaway – for your dog.
When Cathy Kraus’ love for our furry friends led to her establishing Four Paws Bed & Bath two years ago, her vision was to provide a clean and fun place to pamper your pets. Today, her Rupert business is that – and more.

Four Paws is more like a resort hotel than a boarding kennel. Just ask Max the bulldog. When his owner comes to pick him up, Max turns around and runs back inside – he doesn’t like to leave!
“My husband [Jerald] thought I was crazy,” Cathy says. “He thought that I was the only one who loved dogs like this.”
Cathy has one full-time employee and seven part-timers who enjoy the four-legged fun as much as she does. They will pamper your pets like a five-star resort, including giving them a treat before tucking them in at night.
“I have wonderful help,” Cathy says. “We all have the same goal and everyone works really well together. Our motto is, ‘You leave ’em, we love ’em.’ We all care about the dogs and we make sure they are taken care of.”
Cathy’s crew can groom and style your dog, but if you prefer to wash your own, the tubs are available after 2 p.m. But this isn’t any regular tub. Four Paws has three elevated granite bathtubs with easy-access ramps for

your dog. Forgot the soap? No problem – they provide shampoo, conditioner, towels and brushes. For the more pompous pets, cologne and a bow may be applied.
All dogs receive plenty of sunshine and fresh air with four playtimes per day. They love the playground area (yes, some dogs go down the slide). After playtime, the dogs can come inside to watch Animal Planet on television before going down for a nap.

Four Paws also accommodates your feline family members. Kitty Condos offers private two-level rooms with a view for your cat.
Besides the grooming, daycare and boarding services, Four Paws supplies a pet store complete with only products your pet absolutely needs, such as food, treats, squeaky toys, doggy life jackets, rain coats, bath robes, jewel-encrusted collars, doggy water bottles and hair accessories. It’s the perfect place to shop for those hard-to-buy-for canines on your Christmas list. Can’t find the perfect birthday gift for Fido? Just buy him a greeting card – edible, of course.
The store features the latest fashions in doggy design, including this year’s top items: Camouflage hoodies and tank tops. Another hot item is local designer Donna Fletcher’s Snooty Pawtooty line of custom outfits. Four Paws can also order in any item.
Special events are held annually at Four Paws, including a talent show in the summer and a costume contest for Halloween. Santa Claus visits during the holidays, but not to everyone’s delight – some dogs just bark and growl at the strange bearded man in the red suit.

Cathy says southern Idaho has been a great location for her business. Families vacationing during the summer leave their pets at Four Paws, as do farmers who vacation in the winter. The staff keeps busy all year long. They have accommodated more than 60 dogs at one time. All pets must be current on their shots and they must be spayed or neutered.
The facility is very clean and sterile. Every morning, the staff cleans and disinfects everything from floor to ceiling, including dishes and bedding.
“I love coming to work and when I get over here, I don’t want to go home,” Cathy says. “I just love dogs. It’s amazing because every breed is unique. All the dogs that come in here are special and have their own personality.”
