The cupcake trend has hit Southern Idaho.

Recently, shop owner Jeannie Fields opened The Cup Cake, which offers affordable indulgent gourmet cupcakes. Recognizing the need for this niche market, Jeannie stated her goal was to create a “hip, fun and trendy, but not overwhelming cupcakerie for Twin Falls.”

Two years ago Jeannie sold her businesses and moved to Buhl, Idaho, to marry her husband. Formerly in the corporate workforce, layoffs and disappearing jobs helped Jeannie make the decision to turn her passion into a business venture reality. She has been in the food industry for 25 years, catering and consulting. With a business management degree and culinary courses from California and New York, the decision to open The Cup Cake was a piece of cake for Jeannie. She researched the Magic Valley market before finding a permanent storefront. Jeannie said she loves being in the food business, “That’s what I’m good at.”

You won’t find lopsided, cake mix, bake sale goods. At The Cup Cake you will see freshly baked, delicious, colorful personal cakes filling the display cases. Pastries and drinks are also available and espresso is on hand to rinse your frosting fix down.

On their catering menu there are 42 creative flavors such as Rocky Road, Blueberry Delight, Mocha Madness, Mango Margarita, Caramel Latte, and Pina Colada. Classics such as Carrot Cake, Red Velvet, and German Chocolate take you back, fondly recalling memories of past birthday parties and celebrations. Children will love Muddy Worms, a chocolate cake with chocolate cookie crumbs, buttercream and gummy worms crawling out.

The Hound Dog is the most popular flavor. Created in honor of Elvis, it consists of a sugared bacon and banana cake top with peanut butter, buttercream and candied bacon square. The menu also offers Frosting Shots and Cake Pops for anyone needing a sugar-buzz.
